Skin Biopsies
When something on your skin looks suspicious — or you just want certainty — a quick shave biopsy gives us a definitive answer, performed in-office with local anesthesia. No sutures are needed.
Pathology results are typically back within 5–7 business days. We call you with results and explain next steps.
- Duration
- ~5 minutes
- Recovery
- Bandage 24 hours, back to normal next day
- 01Examination. Your provider examines the lesion in question, often using dermoscopy for magnified detail. We explain what we see and what we recommend.
- 02Numbing. A small amount of local anesthetic is injected — the only part that stings, and only for a few seconds. After that, you feel pressure but no pain.
- 03Shave biopsy. A thin shave of tissue is taken from the surface of the lesion. The whole procedure takes about five minutes, and there are no sutures.
- 04Wound care. A small bandage is applied. We send the sample to a dermatopathologist with your clinical history attached for accurate diagnosis.
- 05Results. Results are typically back within 5–7 business days. We call you personally with the result and the next step — whether that's reassurance, monitoring, or a treatment plan.
